Advocates Honored

Six advocates were selected to be honored by their case supervisors for outstanding volunteer service in the past year. The recognition ceremony was held simultaneously with the new volunteer swearing-in on November 8th.

Blue Lake Casino and Rancheria new Business Partner

Blue Lake Casino and Rancheria has joined CASA of Humboldt's Business
Partner Program. CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) recruits,
screens, and trains volunteer advocates to provide consistency and support
to abused and negelcted children. Pictured above from left are Blue Lake

Kid Walk Success

Big Louie's Pizzeria generously assisted the CASA Cares Kid Walk Team with
their recent team fundraiser. The Kid Walk is an annual CASA event to raise
money for CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates). Community teams
fundraise to provide Humboldt County's abused and neglected children with
volunteer advocates who provide consistency and support. Pictured above

AEE Solar Becomes Business Partner

CASA recently welcomed AEE Solar to its Business Partner Program. AEE Solar has been bringing renewable, non-polluting power to the North Coast since 1979. Pictured above at AEE's Arcata Office: David Katz, founder and CEO; Marge Custis, CASA Board President; Sequoya Cross, VP Operations.

CASA Kids Room Near Completion

CASA of Humboldt is very close to having a positive place for children and volunteers to spend time together. By the end of August, stage three of the renovation project will be completed. The former garage will have insulated walls, electricity and heat.

"I'm very hopeful that we will be able to use this space for the advocate training that starts in September," said Yvonne Doble, Volunteer Coordinator, "It really will be a tremendous resource for all the volunteers, and especially the children. As an advocate myself, I've often been unable to find space to do the art or cooking projects my CASA kid would like to do."

The time line of the final stage of the project will be waiting on CASA securing the final funds.

“With another $50,000 to $100,000, the renovation will be finished. At that time training, advocate visits, and use of the kitchen will begin. We are still working on acquiring donated materials and labor to reduce the amount of funds we still need to raise,” said Steve Volow, Executive Director.
